| Situated in the tiny village of Atrani, one of the most picturesque in the region, Il Faro is 100 meters from the main piazza and the beach and 200 meters from the town centre of Amalfi and its beach, the apartment is in a convenient location which you can use as a base while you explore the magnificent Amalfi Coast. Here you can still see the colourfully painted boats that occupy the beach used by local fisherman every evening, whilst during the day you will see the same fisherman mending their nets ready for the next catch. The whole village has been built and developed around its beach, which has always been the main focus and main source of income before tourism came along, much like Capri with its main piazza facing the ocean. The main piazzetta is used by all the locals like an extension of their lounge rooms, whereby they get together with friends and family at the local bar or restaurants or just pass the evening listening to live music or enjoying other types of entertainment that is provided all during the summer months. Sitting at one of the tables you will experience the sensation of being embraced by the warmth that comes from the houses surrounding the piazzetta and the intoxicating sounds of the ocean just a few meters away. In the evenings the village is illuminated by small lanterns and everything seems to appear in miniature like its typical houses built on the side of the mountain which evolved through a unique style of architecture over the centuries as well as its famous winding laneways. The people of Atrani are very tied to their religious traditions and infact during the Christmas period every balcony in sight becomes illuminated with multicoloured lights and from the highest point in Atrani the Christmas Star is launched towards the sea from a steel structure surrounded by fireworks, this symbolises the famous comet star that led the Three Kings to the birthplace of the Baby Jesus. Other fireworks appear as if by magic from the ocean and light up the whole beach. The apartment Il Faro is by far one of the most typical and gracious you are likely find, with its arched ceilings and thick walls that keep this apartment cool in summer and warm in winter. Each window offers a different view, from the ocean in the distance to the beach and its rocks to the famous Hotel Luna that was once a convent as well an old Saracen Tower with the rest of the Coastline. From the open windows you may here the waves lapping against the rocks or the seagulls calling to each other, and at dawn the fishermans boats returning from a night of fishing. The beach is so close you could walk out the door in your swimming costume and dive straight into the ocean at any time of the day or night. Il Faro has only 10 stairs leading up from the main street and this itself makes it unique and quite comfortable accommodation, put together with the view this makes it a rare find indeed. The apartment has recently been refurbished in keeping with its traditional structure. As you enter there is a hallway that leads to a lounge/dining room with a sofabed that could sleep one adult or two children, then there is the main bedroom with a double bed. The kitchen has a double sink and a four burner cook top. There is one bathroom with a shower and a washing machine. The apartment also has, upon your request, electric heating, a hairdryer and an iron with an ironing board. We do not recommend that you bring a car as parking is scarce and very expensive. Public transport is regular and reliable and a taxi transfer from the airport can be arranged to take you to the apartment and back again. |
