Description
On Cornwall's coast of smugglers and pirates, only a walk from Readymoney Cove...The five bedroomed farmhouse and barns at Lawhyre are traditionally built of Cornish stone and slate with some of the buildings dating back to the 18th-century. The barns have been carefully and ingeniously transformed into a charming collection of eight comfortable cottages and, together with the main house, have been tastefully furnished and decorated to a high standard including full gas central heating. All share award-winning landscaped gardens of 2 1/2 acres which include patios, barbecues, a fully-equipped children's play area and one acre activity field. The location is idyllic - a 10-minute stroll down a meandering footpath brings you to the famous Readymoney Cove, a spectacular sandy bay flanked on either side by rocky outcrops, and the nearby ruins of St Catherine's Castle.A similarly short walk in the other direction leads to Fowey, one of Cornwall's most picturesque coastal towns. Its narrow streets, steps and alleys run steeply down to the quays and estuary, and there is a good choice of shops, pubs and restaurants. Fowey is perhaps most famous for its connection with the writer Daphne Du Maurier, its beauty proving to be the inspiration for much of her writing. As one of the UK's top yachting centres, there are also ample opportunities here for sailing and other watersports, and boat trips, river cruises and fishing trips can all be arranged. The picture-postcard village of Polruan, which clings to the hillside across the estuary, is also easily accessible by ferry. From here a pleasant walk inland brings you to the isolated hamlet of Lansallos, its 14th-century church featuring a broken medieval bell, reputedly damaged by drunken villagers. There is much to see and do around Fowey. Picturesque villages line the dramatic coastline, many of them bearing strong reminders of their by-gone days as important fishing communities. Pilchard cellars and seine houses can still be seen in nearby Porthpean and Polkerris, both of which lie in sheltered bays with sandy beaches ideal for swimming and bathing. The fascinating 18th-century port of Charlestown houses a visitor centre, with exhibits from the town's naval history, as well as tales of ill-fated sailors who crashed upon its rugged rocks. Further along the coast lie the whitewashed cottages of Polperro, one of the prettiest fishing harbours in England. The magnificent Eden Project is 11 km away, its biomes offering `a gateway into the world of plants and people', whilst just a short drive away are the equally spectacular Lost Gardens of Heligan, a time capsule of glasshouses, romantic structures and landscapes. This area is also a paradise for ramblers, with the coastal path stretching for km and km, and many walks offering breathtaking scenery at every turn. The mild Cornish climate is a haven for wild flora and fauna, whilst the clear waters and ebbing tides reveal rock pools perfect for netting crabs or prawns. There are four golf courses within a 16 km radius, as well as horse riding for all abilities along coastal tracks. For the benefit of visitors to Lawhyre there is a shared laundry room, parking space for small boats and trailers (on request) and ample space to relax. The caring owners live nearby and are on hand to ensure that visitors staying at Lawhyre enjoy their holidays to the full.ALL COTTAGES: Electricity and full gas central heating incl. Parking.
