During your stay, you can tour nearby chateaux and Romanesque churches, attend a concert at a local music festival, or simply enjoy the beauty of the Auvergne. With volcanic mountains, deep valleys and lakes, the Auvergne offers opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and canoeing, as well as tennis and golf. Day trips are possible throughout the region, as far as the Dordogne. An extensive park embraces dozens of extinct volcanoes, called “puys.” Most of the wooded cones and domes can be easily reached by car, cable car, or on foot. The “Golf des Volcans,” with wonderful views at the foot of the Puy de Dome, is a 40-minute drive away. It is possible to visit Clermont-Ferrand by choosing one of the 4 “Parcours en Ville” (city tour) by picking up a map at the local tourist office and following the signs on the ground and the information boards. Auvergne is well known for its cheese, in particular Cantal, Foume d’Ambert, and Saint Nectaire.
