This province extends from the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) to the Idi Mountains through to the borders of the provinces of Chania and Heraklion. Rethymno is positioned on the north coast of Crete, 80 km west from Heraklion, and 75 km east of Chania, where the two airports of Crete are to be found, about an hour’s drive away by car. Rethymno harbour has a direct ferry connection with the mainland of Greece. The mediaeval old town of Rethymno, with its narrow streets, Venetian palaces and Turkish minarets has a distinct atmosphere. The oriental flavour of the town brings to life the ever changing history since ancient times. Along with the numerous seemingly unlimited sights to see and the beautiful old town, with the Venetian “Fortezza” or fortress, the scenic harbour, and the many enticing tavernas, cafes and restaurants with wonderful Cretan delicacies, Rethymno has one of the most magnificent fine sandy beaches, which stretches to the east almost as far as the eye can see. The beach, which is the longest in Crete, continues for several kilometres, here and there en route broken into small shingle coves where here and there one can find the scattered tiny hamlets reminiscent of the mountain villages. Altogether between Rethymno to the town of Prinos there are no less than 8 beaches, which have been awarded the European Blue Flag. There is much to delight in exploring the many different archaeological sites, monasteries, churches, Venetian and Turkish monuments and memorials, and of course there are archaeological, historical and folk museums, as well as other art museums waiting to be visited. Exploring one of the many Cretan gorges in this area, is sure to reward you with the sight of numerous caves and little grottos. Those of you who delight in traditional customs, will enjoy the numerous cultural festivals and traditional days of celebration in Rethymno, where you get the opportunity to experience a slice of Cretan life. Religious days, the seasonal times of the year and many other reasons mostly form the basis for the regional and public festivities. So in the middle of July you will find for example the Cretan wine festival with its 500 year old tradition, which lasts three weeks and is attended by thousands of people. Of further interest, in the many outlying villages not far from Rethymno, traditional handicrafts are still very much alive. For example, the lovely pottery in Margarites, or the basket weaving of Mixorrouma, the traditional stone masonry in Alfa, or the village of Anogia where lengths of material are still woven on traditional weaving looms, and where traditional Cretan folk art is still being produced. There are also interesting wood carving workshops in Argyroupoli, Agios Konstantinos and Margarites. ein modernes Dorfhaus the new house is a recently built modern 2-storey house, suitable for up to 8 people, situated within the atmospheric old village of Loutra, 12 km from Rethymnon. The detached four bedroom villa with its pretty little front gardens and small swimming pool (25sqm) sits right across the road from the Villa Athena, and was designed and built by the same owner. On the ground floor there is a spacious living/dining room with a fireplace and fully equipped kitchenette with a washing machine and a dishwasher. Also on the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with en suite shower/WC, and a separate bathroom with bath tub/shower fitment/WC. French windows open onto a veranda with views of the garden. The swimming pool with its small paved sun terraces sits within the front gardens and close by there is a BBQ and patio furniture set under a pergola. An interior staircase leads to the upper floor, where there are three further bedrooms plus a lobby area with a little kitchenette. One of the bedrooms has a double bed and en-suite shower/WC, the other two have twin beds and share a bathroom with bath tub/shower fitment/WC. All of the bedrooms have air conditioning and each has access to a veranda or a balcony with views over the village, the surrounding countryside and across to the sea in the distance. For guests use there is a small gym and Jacuzzi in the basement of the house. The nearest beach is approx 4 km away. There are a few mini markets and tavernas within walking distance in the village. Not far from the old harbour are tiny bays and small coves where you can find quiet spots to sun bathe and swim. La villa de 150 m², se compose de 3 chambres et peut accueillir 8-10 personnes. Il y a une piscine d’neviron 40 m² sur l’un des cotés de la maison avec parasols et chaises longues, un barbecue et une aire de jeux pour les enfants. Au rez-de-chaussée, se trouve un spacieux salon/salle à manger ainsi qu’une banquette-lit et un canapé, une cheminée, une radio-casette, télévision satellite, téléphone et une cuisine bien équipée avec une cafetière, un four micro-ondes et une bouilloire. De plus, il y a une spacieuse salle à manger entourée de fenêtres qui donne sur la piscine, une chambre avec un lit double et une salle de bains/wc avec une machine à laver. Quelques marches nous conduisent à une chambre avec un lit double et un canapé-lit et une douche/wc avec un balcon avec de belles vues sur les environs. Un escalier intérieur nous conduit au 1er étage où se trouve une très grande chambre de 40 m² disposant d’un lit double et de 2 lits simples, ainsi qu’une douche/wc et une véranda qui offre également de superbes vues. La maison dispose aussi de 4 unités d'air conditionné en supplément. A environ 100m se trouve un mini-market et une taverne. A 10 km environ, vous trouverez au village de Plakias une plage ainsi que d’autres tavernes et boutiques. Cette maison est idéal pour ceux qui recherchent des vacances relaxantes à la campagne. Une voiture est indispensable. |

Haus Panorama Giannoudi This beautiful and luxurious Country Villa is positioned within 5500sqm grounds, 1 km from the hamlet of Giannoudi and 5,5 km from Rethymnon, and is surrounded by a large garden with olive trees and colourful flowers, where one can relax around the 60sqm swimming pool with children’s pool. Further on this floor there is a bathroom/WC. Facilities include a washing machine and ironing board with iron. A large covered veranda leads off the kitchen, offering attractive views of the surroundings, across to the sea in the distance. A second large veranda with pergola leads off the living room, offering again beautiful panoramic views.The nearest sandy beach is 3,5 km away. Shops and tavernas can be found at a distance of 3 km. This is a very pleasant spot for guests who appreciate relaxing in comfortable surroundings.
